HUNDREDS of people waited in a queue to go shopping in Primark this morning.

People were outside the Argyle Street store in Glasgow as early as 4.30am this morning.

Our readers shared their thoughts across our social media channels.

One person said: "I love Primark but prefer my bed at 7am lol."

Another added: "Loads of places were still open for clothes, don’t get the desperation for a clothes shop opening."

Glasgow Times:

Someone wrote: "Restrictions this time round have been too long. Wouldn’t be surprised if there is mayhem today. We should’ve been opened in line with England."

Another said: "OMG people must be mad. It’s a clothes shop for goodness sake. I will not be queuing to get in that’s for sure!"

Someone commented: "One to tell their grandkids. What did you do during the pandemic nana? I queued up outside Primark for a £3 pair of flip-flops and a hairbrush kids."

Another said: "Everyone saying they are sad etc. We’ve been locked in since Boxing Day! If folk want to have a wander about the city centre and queue for shops after having nothing to do but sit in their living room for five months then good on on them! Mind yer business!"

One person wrote: "Brilliant to see people back in the city centre and shops opening again."

Another added: "Boxing Day sales! I understand all those craving a bit of normality but for me, I won’t be going anywhere near this amount of people just yet."

One person wrote: "So many moany Martha's, getting out is a privilege in these times leave people to their own choices."

Meanwhile, someone said: "Not gonna lie - I wish it was me that was first in queue. Happy shopping everyone!"

Primark CEO, Paul Marchant, said: “We can’t wait to welcome back our customers in Scotland; our stores are fully stocked with fresh new season fashion, all at Primark’s famous amazing prices.

"Between our great value, everyday must-haves and hot new season trend collections, we’ve got everything our customers have been waiting for.

"We saw a great response to our re-opening by our customers in England and Wales last week, and we know our customers in Scotland will love our new Spring/Summer offering too. Safety remains at the front of our minds.

"We have extended opening hours across almost all of our stores in Scotland to help meet demand safely but we’re also asking our customers to keep up the support and spirit they showed last year, particularly if queuing outside or in-store.”
