THE management of one of Glasgow's most historic pubs has revealed the true story behind a viral picture of its beer garden. 

The Tolbooth Bar has not fully reopened to customers, said Jojo Keenan a manager of the pub.

We told yesterday how Glasgow was left in stitches over a picture showing customers huddled under umbrellas in the rain to enjoy a pint together. 

"What's ironic is that we're not actually up-and-running again yet," said Jojo. 

"We only opened up for one of our regular customers yesterday afternoon. We had deliveries in and ran all the pipes because one of our regular customers phoned to ask if we were open.

"She said: We're going to book somewhere else but we wanted to check if you were opening. 

"We only have four tables, so there's no point in opening for outside service."

They got so much attention from excited drinkers they had to pop out a call on social media telling customers they were not fully open yet. 

Jojo added: "We stayed in touch with our customers over lockdown over phone calls and snail mail.

"We're like a family."

The Saltmarket pub, which has stood on the same spot since 1906 and is one of the city's best-established Irish pubs. 

They are looking forward to serving customers indoors from May 17, when restrictions are expected to relax further.
