HUNDREDS of tributes have been paid to a "genuinely lovely" Strathclyde University graduate who died in a devastating bike crash in Australia.

Graeme Pearson had been training for a triathlon in Brisbane before he collided with a stationary car on Saturday.

Paramedics worked to save the 31-year-old, however he was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

Graeme, from Hamilton, had ventured off to Australia after graduating from Strathclyde University with a Civil Engineering degree.

Glasgow Times:

It was there where he moved from "strength to strength", having met his fiancee and becoming a "highly successful" athlete.

Friends of the "proud Scot" have described him as a "genuinely lovely man" and a "lovely guy".

Jennifer McCluskey, a fellow schoolmate, said: "Devastating news. He was such a lovely guy.

"From knowing him in Primary 1 until we left high school and followed his journey in Australia. Thoughts are with his family and everyone that knew Graeme."

Alasdair Crawford wrote: "Gutted to hear this. Graeme was really friendly to everyone and always went about life with an upbeat positive attitude. Sorry for your loss."

Kim Bell added: " I can't believe it Ross.

I've known Graeme since toddlers, and we continued going to the same schools. Whilst I lost touch after leaving high school like with many other people - I did enjoy seeing him flourish in Australia. And also the funny updates with his cat.

"When people say that they never have anything bad to say about him, it's because it's true. He was overall the nicest person you could meet and with not a bad bone in his body.

"I'm completely shocked to hear of what has happened to Graeme and my thoughts are with his parents, brother and fiancee."

An obituary from his family reads: “Tragically, as a result of a cycling accident in his adopted home of Brisbane, Australia on Saturday, April 24, 2021, Graeme Pearson, aged 31, dearly loved son of Colin and Shona, brother of Andrew, fiancé to Mel and nephew to Neil and Linda.

“You're here for a good time, not a long time.”
