A PIZZA vending machine has been denied planning permission by the council

Bosses at the Pizza Machine, which runs the Blackfriars Road gadget, built the takeaway spot and then went to planning chiefs to approve the project.

But their request was knocked back, with city planners raising concerns about fumes from the vending machine upsetting its Merchant City neighbours.

It also breaks the council's rules over the amount of takeaways that are allowed to be in an area.

The spot has attracted a number of louts since it opened in November last year, with bosses using its built-in CCTV to track down vandals.

Kevin McGuire, the majority shareholder in the Pizza Machine firm, said he was appealed the council's decision.

He added that he expected to continue trading in the meantime.

A Glasgow City Council spokesman said: “The retrospective planning application for this was refused consent, and any appeal to the council’s Planning Local Review Committee will be considered in due course.

Officers in the council’s planning enforcement team will now consider the impact on the machine before making a decision on whether formal enforcement action be initiated to cease the use ahead of the appeal decision.

"In terms of the impact on the machine, by this I mean whether the ongoing use until the appeal will detrimentally effect on the amenity of residents through the effects of increased noise, activity and/or cooking fumes.
