A horse has died after a huge blaze erupted at a farm near Glasgow. 

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) attended the scene at Salterland Stables, Barrhead, late last night.

Eyewitness footage taken from a car passing by at the time showed a cloud of smoke and flames rising from the fire.

Jim McNeill, SFRS local senior officer for Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire and Inverclyde, told the Barrhead News: “We were alerted at 11.13pm on Tuesday, May 4 to reports of a farm building on fire at Salterland Road, Barrhead, Glasgow.

“Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the scene and firefighters extinguished the fire.

“Sadly one animal passed away.

“Our thoughts are with everyone affected.”
