A MAN was slashed in broad daylight in a busy city centre shopping street.

A worker in a local firm who witnessed the brutal attack told the Glasgow Times how he saw a man chased by two thugs into the Candy Galore Shop in Argyle Street this afternoon.

Their victim came out the shop, which was evacuated by the manager, with a slash across his face, claimed the worker.

He then ran to the front of Debenhams, said the worker, where he was patched up by medics. Cleaning materials were spotted outside the shop after the attack.

Cops remain on the scene and are speaking to shop staff. 

One employee of the American sweets shop, who appeared shaken, declined to comment.

A police cordon is in place outside the H&M, near Debenhams in Argyle Street this afternoon.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "Officers were called to a premises on Argyle Street in Glasgow at around 12.30pm on Wednesday, May 5, following an assault.

"One man has been taken to hospital and officers remain at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing and there is no wider threat to the public."
