FIREFIGHTERS tackled a midnight blaze near the top of a high-rise block of flats in Drumchapel.

Emergency crews rushed to Linkwood Crescent when the alarm was raised about the smell of smoke on the 16th floor.

This was extinguished safely and police have now launched a probe into the cause of the inferno.

The fire service was also called out to the block on a further two occasions during the early hours, but no blaze was discovered on either visit.
