A THUG who stabbed a delivery driver with a broken pen has been jailed for 22 months.

Dennis Mullen, 39, pounced on John Dewar in Glasgow’s Parkhead in Halloween 2019.

Mullen stated: “I know your face, I will slash you” before stabbing Mr Dewar to the neck and chest.

Mullen pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the assault to Mr Dewar’s injury.

Sheriff Paul Crozier put him under supervision for 12 months upon his release from prison.

The court heard Mr Dewar and his colleague had delivered furniture and were heading back to their vehicle.

Mullen approached them and said: “You want some?” before he ran at Mr Dewar’s colleague with a glass bottle.

He then turned his attention to Mr Dewar and made the remarks.

Prosecutor Carrie Stevens said: “He took something from his pocket and ran towards Mr Dewar.

“He began stabbing him to his neck and chest while Mr Dewar began struggling with Mullen.

“Mullen took hold of Mr Dewar’s jacket and continued to stab him.”

Mullen was pulled away by a passer-by and he was found to be carrying the broken plastic pen.

Mr Dewar’s colleague took a picture of Mullen and noted the registration of his car.

Mullen, of the city's Tollcross, was later traced and arrested.

Mr Dewar meantime was taken to hospital and fortunately escaped with a minor chest injury.
