Thousands of pounds have been raised for a terminally-ill mum as she prepares to marry her long-term partner.

Veterinary care assistant Gemma McGowan, 29, is one of just three people in the world with Squamous Cell Carcinoma, which attacks the nasal cavity.

She was diagnosed with the disease a year ago and, since then, has undergone chemotherapy, as well as surgery to remove her right eye.

However, in March, Gemma was told her condition is terminal.

She is now using the time she has left to make happy memories with her baby son Arran and fiance Steven Murie, as well as parents Lorraine and William and younger sisters Leeanne and Lauren.

A GoFundMe page set up by her cousin Mark McAloney to provide for the family has so far raised more than £15,000.

And a separate page organised by charitable organisation Wedding Wish Makers has raised just under £3,000.

Gemma and Steven, from Paisley, had planned to get married in 2023 but decided to bring that forward and will now tie the knot at the Dalmeny Park Hotel, in Barrhead, on June 11.

A spokesperson for Renfrewshire-based Wedding Wish Makers said: “With time not on our side, we are making an urgent appeal to raise £3,000 to pay for their wedding venue, marriage licence, wedding rings and other wedding-related items they will need.”

Gemma was initially told she had a blocked tear duct but pushed for more tests, which discovered the cancerous tumour.

Arran was delivered after only 32 weeks to enable her to safely continue her chemotherapy and then for surgery to be carried out on her eye.

The GoFundMe page set up by Mark states: “The money raised will be used to give Gemma the most memorable few months possible and to support her son and family going forward.”
