THE fight is on to save jobs at a major employer near Glasgow after a "turbulent time" for the firm. 

Around 60 people are employed at the Highland Spring plan in Lennoxtown, where a key contract has been axed, adding to the business' recent difficulties.

Glasgow Times:

The East Dunbartonshire site makes bottled water for Sainsbury's own brand range but the supermarket will move to a different supplier in August. 

The Fells plant comes under the Strathkelvin and Bearsden constituency, which is represented by Rona Mackay in the Scottish Parliament.

The SNP MSP said the company had assured her "no stone is being left unturned" to save jobs at what she described as a major asset in the area. 

She added: "I am in active discussions with Highland Spring regarding their future in Lennoxtown. I stand alongside the workers during this turbulent time for the business after such a tough year."

Glasgow Times:

A spokeswoman for Highland Spring said: "We are comprehensively exploring different options, such as securing additional volumes, to maintain the long-term viability of The Fells site in Lennoxtown.

"We are in consultation with our employees and are supporting them as we work through this process. We can confirm the site will be supplying our existing customers as usual, and continuing to operate beyond August and until such time as our review of different options is complete

"We have been in contact with Rona MacKay MSP to provide updates on our Lennoxtown site and appreciate her support as we work through this process."

A spokeswoman said: "We understand this will be a difficult time for those affected and we are in close contact with Highland Spring Group.”
