A WOMAN has died after being hit by a vehicle on a country road near Airdrie. 

The 22-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene on the A89 Airdrie Road, at the junction with Woodside Road, at around 11.45pm yesterday. 

It is not yet clear at this stage how many people were involved in the incident.

Police have remained in the area this morning as they carry out enquiries and have asked anyone with information to get in touch. 

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Officers were called to the A89 Airdrie Road near to the Woodside Road junction at around 11.45pm on Sunday, 16 May, 2021, after a woman was struck by a vehicle.

“The 22-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Enquiries are ongoing into the cause of the crash and anyone who has any information which could assist our investigation, or who saw the collision, should contact Police Scotland on 101 and quote incident number 4229 of May 16.”
