SCOTTISH Labour leader Anas Sarwar is self-isolating after a member of his household tested positive for coronavirus.

A spokesperson for the party said: “Anas Sarwar is self-isolating as a result of a member of his household testing positive for Covid-19.

“Mr Sarwar is well and will continue to fulfil his role in the Scottish Parliament remotely for the period of his self-isolation.”

It is understood the Scottish Labour leader has tested negative for the virus.

Sarwar lives in Glasgow's southside which was has been the centre of an outbreak of cases in Scotland's largest city.

SNP MSP for Glasgow Pollok and Scottish Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf wished Sarwar and his family well on Twitter, saying: "Best of health to Anas and his family."

Last Friday, Nicola Sturgeon announced that Glasgow and the north-east area of Moray would stay in Level 3 restrictions as the rest of mainland Scotland moved to Level 2 today.

It was also highlighted today that two new areas have seen a spike in cases after Public Health Scotland (PHS) data was released.

The figures show a rolling seven-day average and highlight East Renfrewshire and Midlothian as seeing a rise in cases.

Glasgow currently has the highest rate in Scotland with 100.3 cases per 100,000 people.

Moray's rolling seven-day average rate of cases per 100,000 was 59.5 as of Friday, down from a peak for the current outbreak of 100.2 recorded on May 9.

East Renfrewshire has a rate of 86.9 per 100,000, higher than Glasgow’s when it was announced on Friday the city would be kept in Level 3 restrictions.

Midlothian's rate has more than doubled in a week with an average of 55.2 per 100,000.
