A RAIL union has announced further industrial action on Monday.

RMT members at ScotRail who are Traincare workers have been encouraged to take industrial action, claiming a manager has been promoted just two weeks after being found guilty of breaching policy and being removed from his original post where he was the subject of a collective grievance by 16 workers.

Affected workers will stage a 24 hour walk out starting at midnight on Monday May 24.

Workers are also staging ongoing strike action on Sundays until a resolution is met.

RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch said:

“It is a disgrace that a ScotRail manager who has been found guilty by the company of breaching its dignity and respect policy has been promoted when everyone at the company is well aware that an ordinary worker would be dismissed for the same offence.

“RMT signed up to the policy in good faith and in the belief that any bullying and harassment by any worker, regardless of their position in the company, would not be tolerated.

“We have been left with no choice but to take strike action over the double standards within ScotRail, which are frankly unbelievable and make a mockery of its dignity and respect policy.

“The union remains available for talks aimed at resolving this dispute.”

Syeda Ghufran, ScotRail Engineering Director, said: “I am disappointed with this outcome, despite an exhaustive investigation having taken place, in cooperation with the RMT.

“At a time when the railway faces the most serious financial crisis in its history, we need to work together to recover ScotRail, get passengers using the trains again, and build a more sustainable operation. Strike action is divisive and wrong.”
