NETWORK RAIL has shared a sneak-peak of the progress of a restoration project in Glasgow's city centre. 

The national railway operator posted a behind-the-sheet picture of the Glasgow Central Bridge, which is currently under wraps as workers spruce it up.

Opened in 1905 to replace the Caledonia Railway Bridge into the city, the New Clyde Bridge began renovation work in 2019. 

Matthew Spence, Network Rail’s route delivery director for Scotland, said at the time: “The New Clyde Bridge is one of the hardest-working structures on our railway – carrying nearly 1,300 trains each day to and from the country’s busiest station.

“The work we are doing will ensure this landmark bridge can continue to play its vital role in keeping Scotland’s railway moving for decades to come."

The project was due to be completed by December 2020 but was delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
