MUSICIAN, producer and DJ Rebecca Vasmant has launched her own label, Rebecca’s Records, while announcing the release of her debut LP.

With Love, From Glasgow is out on June 4. A resident DJ at Sub Club, Rebecca took the lead in curating the first live jazz showcases at the venue, also running a popular record fair and travelling to 22 countries over the last five years to perform.

The new record started before lockdown, but the pandemic pause gave the project the chance to grow into a showcase for local jazz performers to kick off the roster of new releases for Rebecca’s label.

“The Glasgow jazz scene was becoming stronger in recent years. I knew some of the older figures from working on production projects for the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra.

“I started to reach out to some of the younger musicians to see if they wanted to collaborate and from there a musical family formed. That was all possible because the world was still open. With lockdown, people had already made the connection so we were able to collaborate remotely and keep in touch” she says.

“I’ve watched the Glasgow scene evolve, with the form changing and the added influence of the jazz course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. I feel like we’re at this exciting point where there is a lot of crossover to other genres and that’s what we’ve captured with this LP.”

Rebecca is among the Glasgow DJ talent assembling for Riverside by Night on Saturday, September 4 as the sold-out festival continues with a takeover of the full SWG3 complex, featuring headliners Disclosure and Skream. Tickets from riversidefestivalglasgow.com.
