GLASWEGIANS are 'totally fed up' after today's announcement that the city would remain under level 3 restrictions.

Speaking today, Nicola Sturgeon said cases in Glasgow had risen by 30%.

We asked Glasgow Times readers what they thought about today's news.

Many readers have hit out at Ms Sturgeon for the decision. Mollie Strachan said: "Nicola Standoff strikes again. Pissed off is an understatement. Businesses affected left right and centre. Ridiculous state of affairs."

However, others believe that people should be taking responsibility for their own actions.

Jill Ferguson said: "Too many folk who are too selfish to follow the rules, and that's why we're in level 3 they obviously haven't had covid in their family or friends or neighbours."

Robert Taylor believes the rules won't target the right people. He said on our Facebook page: "It’s stupid. The only people it’ll affect are the people who don’t deserve it. The ones who have been ignoring the rules will continue to. But hey Ho."

Leader of Glasgow City Council, Susan Aitken also shared her disappointment at the news. She tweeted: "Obviously it’s really disappointing that the level of infections isn’t yet low enough for us to move to level 2 immediately. But we’re winning this fight. Please keep getting tested, get vaccinated, and stick to the rules. There’s light at the end of this tunnel, Glasgow."

Stephen Montgomery from the Scottish Hospitality Group said: "All that’s going to happen is people will continue to travel outside Glasgow city centre, further spreading the virus. We already know that’s happening.

"So, if things are really that bad that there needs to be this continued lockdown, then this is a counter-productive move and makes no sense as far as the government’s policy is concerned.

"We firmly believe the approach based on case numbers is largely irrelevant now. It’s admissions and other hospital data that should be used and it’s great to see that those are remaining at a very low level.

"With the vaccine roll-out and all the preventative measures that the government has had us put in place, it should be possible to remove Glasgow from these unfair restrictions now.

"It is quite staggering to think that the plan for the fan zone at Glasgow Green is in full swing, but here we have a situation where Scottish Government thinks that keeping Glasgow City in level 3 and throwing hospitality businesses a pitiful £750 per week is acceptable.
