A NEW dad lashed out at police in a random attack that only saw him subdued with a baton, pepper spray and restraints.

Police were called out to Barlia Drive in Castlemilk in connection with another matter when Jamie Moonie began his rampage.

The 21-year-old ran towards the officers and punched one in the face.

A struggle ensued between the accused and the police before he broke free and ran off along the street with officers pursuing him.

He then repeatedly attempted to strike one of the officers who drew his baton and struck the accused on the leg.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that when this failed, police took PAVA spray and sprayed him in the face.

This took effect but Moonie continued to lash out and grabbed the leg of another officer and caused him to fall to the ground.

The accused repeatedly refused to release his grip and tried repeatedly to bite the cop.

He was finally restrained with fast straps and taken to Cathcart police office and placed in a cell.

Moonie's defence lawyer said "one thing led to another", adding that his client had sustained a black eye and some grazing to the face but was not expecting sympathy from the court.

He said: "Police turned up and one thing seems to have led to another to another to another.

"It spiralled out of control from the original situation.

"He was under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

"He has been in custody for a long time and has got a daughter who he has not seen.

"His partner was due to give birth just before he was remanded and he has only seen his baby over video call as he has not been allowed any visits.

"His anxiety levels are at an all time high and he is suffering terribly because he can't get to see his child."

Sheriff Paul Brown said: "Your record and the nature of this offence warrants a custodial sentence."

Moonie was sent to prison for 90 days.
