GLASGOW City Council staff have seen a reduction in the number of accidents reported in the workplace.

A Freedom of Information request revealed the number of work-related incidents had declined across all local authority departments throughout 2020.

Neighbours, regeneration and sustainability reported a drop from 316 in 2019 to 154 in 2020, while there were just nine incidents across the financial services department last year despite 53 the year prior.

There were 844 fewer reports within the education division, which decreased from 3211 to 2367.

The biggest decline came from the number of accidents reported in the social work unit, which saw a drop of 285 from 1776 to 1491, while the smallest decrease came from the chief executive division which had six incidents in 2019 and five in 2020.

A total of 158 reports came from the development and regeneration sector in 2019, while 59 incidents occurred in 2020 - a reduction of almost 100.

In total, 1435 fewer incidents occurred in 2020 than the previous year.

A spokeswoman for the council said the local authority has been working hard to ensure the safety of staff.

She said: “All council staff receive safety training – and frequent refresher training – and the appropriate safety equipment, where necessary, to carry out their roles and enable them to mitigate any potential risks.
