CID investigating the attack said enquires into the incident have captured the two men on CCTV prior to the incident on Hairst Street, where they are seen to have a verbal altercation with an unknown man and woman.

“We are aware that the men were involved in a verbal altercation with a couple at a taxi rank prior to the incident on Hairst Street and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen this.
“Likewise, anyone who was on Ferguson Street at the time of the assault and has not yet spoken to police please contact us.
“Finally I would appeal to anyone with any further information or who may recognise the description of the two men to call officers as soon as you can.”
