A RUTHERGLEN congregation has welcomed their new minister to the role. 

Reverend Neil Watson has taken up the mantle at Stonelaw Chruch of Scotland on Dryburgh Avenue.

Reverend Watson previously spent 10 years in the Lothians before making the move to Rutherglen.

He said: “I was attracted to Stonelaw because of all the wonderful things that are currently part of the ministry here; both in terms of outreach and developing faith. There are many people involved in the ministry here and the opportunity to work as part of a wider team in developing the ministry of Stonelaw is something I am looking forward to.

“My main priority at the moment is to get know the people, the church and the area. The priority for the church is to navigate our way into the new world created by the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond; this will include how we develop the church community in a way that allows us to best fulfil Jesus' command in Matthew 28 to make disciples, baptise and be a people that best serves all in our parish.”
