A PAIR of science stars at Inverclyde Academy won places on a prestigious programme.

Third year pupils Emma Sherry and Charlotte Taggart completed the University of Strathclyde's 'Engineering the Future for Girls' course.

Staff and students from the uni provided the girls with an insight into studying and working in the engineering field and they took part in a group project.

Scott McHendry, a principal teacher at the school, said he was proud that two girls from the school were flying the flag for science and engineering.

He said: "There's a lot of competition to get into the programme, so they did really well.

"The girls have proved that no matter your gender, you can succeed in engineering."
