DESPITE worries that poor weather might cloud visibility, Glaswegians were able to get a view of today's partial solar eclipse.

It began at around 10.07am and ended at 12.31pm with the maximum eclipse at 11.16am.

Called an 'annular eclipse' the phenomenon happens when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun.

Observers in the UK and Ireland saw a crescent Sun instead of a ring.

Our photographer captured images of the rare event over the City Chambers.

People across the city also took to Twitter to show off their snaps.

But some were not able to see the eclipse as Glasgow's hopes were once again dashed by the weather.
