DEMOLITION of several buildings which were damaged by a fire in the city's High Street last month has begun.
The properties on 223 to 229 High Street are to be torn down in the interest of public safety.
It comes after more than 40 firefighters worked through the night to fight the fire which engulfed the historic building near the Old College Bar on May 4. No one was injured.
A police investigation was launched in a bid to understand the full circumstances surrounding the blaze.

Detective Constable Neil Bonsor, of Stewart Street CID, who is part of the investigation team previously said the blaze caused significant damage to the building’s structure.
Gordon Blair, the co-owner of The Country Shop butchers on the site, previously told us of his devastation at losing the Merchant City shop which was bought by his family more than 40 years ago.
