BBC The Social have issued a statement after one of their latest videos received a 'large amount' of 'hateful comments'.

The online post titled 'Fae The Scheme Tae The First Team' was uploaded to The Social's Twitter account on Friday. 

It features a young Scottish woman reading a poem she has written about football in Scotland ahead of the national team's first apperance at the UEFA Euro 2020. 

Many viewers were not fans of the content and took to social media expressing this.

In a statement published on The Social's Twitter they said: "This video has received a large amount of hateful and abusive comments so we wanted to respond. 

"Here at The Social, we work with and develop new creators in Scotland to produce content on subjects they are passionate about. 

"While some people may not like or disagree with the content, abusive comments will not be tolerated and we're continuing to monitor and report."

The video has received over 2,000 likes on Twitter being shared by over 1,000 people.

BBC The Social is a digital platform based in Glasgow which began in 2015 as a talent development project.
