HUNDREDS of kind-hearted fundraisers have been thanked by Scotland's leading cancer centre after they went Off the Beatson track virtually this weekend to raise thousands to support life-changing research and care.

The flagship event, which challenges participants to complete 10k (6.5 miles), is in its 8th year and attracted 700 walkers, runners, and cyclists to fundraise for the 2021 event.

For the first time last year, the event was virtual and this year people from all over Scotland took part from the peaks of Conic Hill to the forests of Campsie Glen.

The Beatson Cancer Charity, which provides support for cancer patients and raises funds for scientific research into the disease, organise the event each year to bolster funds that truly make a difference.

From the hospital wards, right to the heart of the communities that The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre serves, they believe everyone should experience cancer with care, with love and with hope and the monies raised by Off the Beatson Track will support these efforts.

The last seven years have seen over 11,000 participants walk over 70,000 miles - making it Glasgow's biggest, best, and most yellow sponsored walk.

Martin Cawley, CEO of the Beatson Cancer Charity, said: “We are absolutely bowled over by everyone’s participation in this year’s event. Not only have we raised a phenomenal sum of money which will make a genuine difference to the outcomes of real patients, the pictures people have sent over and shared online have really shown a great side to participating in events like this.”
