A MEMORIAL in tribute to victims of the Irish potato famine is set to be unveiled in Calton.
‘The Tower of Silence’ sculpture by John McCarron will be located at St Mary's RC Church in the east of the city after a successful campaign by the An Gorta Mór Glasgow Remembrance Group to erect the tribute.
Jeanette Findlay, chair of the group, wrote: "Having delayed the unveiling of the memorial to ensure members of the community could attend, we are making plans for an event to mark the unveiling in line with Level 2 conditions in Glasgow.
It’s been a long time coming, but we’re happy to announce that Glasgow’s first permanent memorial to #AnGortaMór will be unveiled on Sunday 25 July https://t.co/0T9r2bo2AE via @GortaMorGla

"Although we will still be limited in the numbers who can attend, we look forward to marking this significant milestone with as many of you as possible."
There will be an event held at St Mary's on Sunday July, 25 to open the memorial to the public.
