HE IS perhaps not as famous a name as some who have played for Celtic, but Neilly Mochan is a Parkhead legend all the same.

He scored more than 100 goals for the club, including two in its second most famous game, he was a huge part of the European Cup success and made his presence felt as a trainer during a golden era for the team.

Neilly Mochan gets past Rangers.

Originally from Carron in Stirlingshire, Neilly signed for Celtic in 1953 and played for seven seasons.

He was an iconic player throughout 50s, scoring the winner in the Coronation Cup, and he was responsible for two goals in the 7-1 win over Rangers.

In our sister newspaper The Herald, his obituary read: “Neil Mochan was gifted with a truly venomous shot and his hard, driven low crosses from the wing were a constant source of danger to defences.”

Mochan was part of the club’s coaching dream team alongside Jock Stein and Sean Fallon and he stayed on under Billy McNeill and David Hay.

He was still there when Tommy Burns took over but sadly died from leukaemia, aged just 67, in 1994.
