We decided to go vegetarian, just for the evening, and try out the food from a new and much recommended eaterie for the first time.
Specialising in Panjabi dishes, Ranjit's Kitchen is a small restaurant just on the edge of Govanhill with three or four tables for dining inside and a takeaway menu much in demand by locals.
The menu is completely meat and fish free and many of the main courses and side orders come with options to be made either vegan or gluten free.

As it's somewhere new we weren't really sure what and how many dishes to choose, but the restaurant's friendly staff were helpful with suggestions of what dishes goes well together and the amount to order for two people.
We opt for the daal of the day made with lentils and mustard seeds and a sweet channa with paneer, made with chickpeas and mixed peppers.
To go alongside we also order two paranthas, one sweet and one vegetable, a samosa channa special, some paneer pakora and a roti.
As the kids quickly devour the sweet parantha we wish we ordered a couple more, especially as the roti and the vegetable parantha vanish quickly too.
There's lots of the menu we would like to try too including the Aloo tikki - mashed spicy potatoes in a light batter - and Ranjit's special pakora (made with cauliflower, spinach and onions) which we somehow overlooked when making our choice. But with the prices very reasonable it won't be long before we order again.
Cost: £25.85
