SECONDARY schools in North Lanarkshire will move to a four and a half-day week from August.

Pupils will officially finish at 12.30pm on a Friday.

The decision follows a council review that recommended incorporating structured pathways in work-based learning and routes to employment to enhance and improve young people’s prospects after leaving school.

Council bosses say there will be no reduction to the key curriculum subjects.

And in place of the extra period on a Friday afternoon, there will be a range of opportunities offered on a voluntary basis.
