NHS Lanarkshire is celebrating reaching a Covid milestone, after announcing that 750,000 vaccine doses have been administered in the region.

The health board have revealed that 85% of adults have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, with 60% having received both doses.

Dr Mark Russell, lead for the covid-19 vaccination programme in Lanarkshire, said: “Reaching three quarters of a million doses is an incredible achievement and would not have been possible without the continued dedication and hard work of our NHS and council colleagues.

"I would also like to say thank you to our local communities for continuing to attend their vaccination appointments."

The vaccines rollout has been ticking along in Scotland, with those in the younger age range now being invited to make their first appointments.

Dr Russell added: “We are on track to offer first doses to everyone in Lanarkshire age 18 or over, by the start of July. Appointments for all 18 to 29 year olds who registered online have been issued and we have started to send appointments to the remainder of this group.

“We are currently working on plans for the coming months, which will include a focus on local centres and drop-in clinics to help reach people who have missed their first dose or who need to reschedule their second dose.

“Attending your vaccination appointment is now more important than ever and receiving both doses gives you the maximum protection possible.”
