A KILLER "cried like a baby" after stabbing his brother-in-law to death, a court heard.

Thomas Reilly knifed Drew Linton, 43, in the heart near to a children's nursery in Easterhouse on December 3 2019.

The 44-year-old was raging after a text message from his sister - Drew's partner - saw him storm up to the couple's home.

Reilly called his own girlfriend at work to confess to the attack - before breaking down when he learned the victim had passed away.

The first offender was yesterday convicted of culpable homicide following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

Reilly - who had originally faced a murder charge - will be sentenced next month.

Jurors heard how Reilly had been "angry" at his sister Sharon.

He later called her home and spoke to her partner Drew.

Drew then told Sharon: "I take it Thomas is drunk. He has just phoned threatening to murder me."

Reilly turned up and there was eventually a confrontation between the men in Lochend Road, Easterhouse.

The killer stabbed dad Drew in the chest before yanking the blade out.

Reilly walked off leaving his victim dying in the street and cradled by his sister Sharon.

Reilly went on to call his partner Angela Aitken, while she was at work as an accounts assistant.

The 43 year-old recalled: "He just said one thing - he said he had stabbed Drew."

She arrived home and discovered her boyfriend "staring into space".

Angela added: "I knew that he had a drink in him. He had been upset and crying."

Reilly spoke about handing himself into police before getting a call from his brother that Drew had died.

Prosecutor Steven Borthwick asked Angela how he reacted.

She replied: "He fell to the floor and was crying like a wee baby.

"He just kept saying 'no, no'. He had not thought he had killed him."

The court heard after Reilly was arrested, he stated to police: "Guilty."

He also said: "I have just killed someone I love. I have killed my brother in law. It should never have happened."

Reilly, also of Easterhouse, had denied murder.

Lady Scott remanded him in custody pending sentencing next month in Livingston.

Victim Drew was a well known supporter of the Miscarriages of Justice Organisation before his death.
