COPS swooped on a Glasgow warehouse uncovering £3million worth of fake designer goods.

Around £6000 in cash was also found during the operation on June 15 at a warehouse in the Southside of the city.

The sting was conducted alongside Trading Standards; the Anti Counterfeiting Group (ACG) and brand representatives, the Daily Record has reported.

The goods included items from well-known brands such as Ugg, North Face and Dior.

Organised crime police are now investigating to find the individuals responsible.

Chief Inspector Shaheen Baber, Local Area Commander for Glasgow South West, said: “Counterfeit goods have a detrimental effect on local businesses across the community and prevent reputable retailers from carrying out lawful business. They also cause members of the public to buy goods which are often sub-standard or with the belief that they are genuine items.”

Robert Steenson, DETER Strand Lead for Scotland’s Serious Organised Crime Taskforce (SOCT) said: “This substantial seizure highlights the vital importance of multi-agency working.

“The buying and selling of counterfeit goods isn’t a victimless crime and lines the pockets of criminal gangs as well as damaging legitimate businesses. It is also used by organised crime groups to fund other activities including drugs, guns and people trafficking. The products themselves are often dangerous and haven’t been through any health and safety checks. Don’t take a chance by buying them and being ripped off.

“The SOCT will continue to have a zero tolerance approach to counterfeiting and working with all our partner agencies, we will use all means necessary to help protect our communities and businesses from the real and present danger posed by organised crime.”

Councillor Kelly Parry, Chair of Trading Standards Scotland’s Governance Board, said:

“This is a very significant seizure and will seriously disrupt the trade in counterfeit goods in Scotland.

The trade in illicit goods is often linked to serious and organised crime and tackling this trade is a key aim of Scotland’s Serious and Organised Crime Taskforce, of which I am a member.”
