TWENTY-FIVE inmates at Low Moss prison have tested positive for coronavirus.

It is understood the outbreak is currently confined to one hall at the prison, close to Bishopbriggs.

A large number of prisoners are now self-isolating after potentially being in close contact with the virus.

Scottish Prison Service, who manage Low Moss, are working with other agencies in a bid to get the outbreak under control.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Prison Service said: "The safety and wellbeing of all those living and working in our establishments is  a priority for the Scottish Prison Service. There are currently 25 confirmed cases of COVID amongst those in our care at HMP Low Moss. 

"A significant number of individuals are also self-isolating  due to potential contact with individuals who have subsequently tested positive.

"We continue to work closely with Public Health colleagues in managing these cases”
