CITY centre pub Bier Halle can serve guests at two new outdoor areas on Buchanan Street.

Glasgow’s licensing board has awarded two occasional licences to the Gordon Street venue.

They allow alcohol to be sold at an area near to the police box on Buchanan Street and in space opposite All Saints.

The licences will run until March 31, 2022 and allow the pub to increase their outdoor capacity.

Both new areas can seat 40 people each while a current outside area on Gordon Street can hold around 120 guests.

Bier Halle is situated in a basement on Gordon Street and can take 196 people.

Archie MacIver, representing Bier Halle, said: “These three outside areas basically equate to what the premises themselves can hold.

“The reason the applications have been made goes back to the fact the premises are in the basement.

“What they are trying to achieve here is to try as much as possible to have people outside the premises rather than inside in the current climate.”

There will be a mobile bar in both areas, with all orders via an app. It will be table service only and track and trace will be in place.

Mr MacIver added: “To allow them to have these extra spaces would effectively enable them to operate their business on broadly a similar level to that which they would normally be able to do in conventional times.”

The licensing board approved the applications at a meeting on Friday, where it also granted occasional licences to Sub Club director Mike Grieve for a pop-up rooftop bar in Kinning Park and to Partick Thistle, who plan to open a marquee bar in a stadium car park once fans return to games.
