COMMUNITY projects and inspiring individuals across the city have been spreading a lot of happiness in a tough year.
Tonight gives them their moment in the spotlight at the Glasgow Times Streets Ahead Awards.
Because of Covid, our ceremony has had to move online and will be streamed on our Facebook page from 7pm.
It marks the 10th successful year of our awardwinning community campaign, run in partnership with Glasgow City Council, City Building, People Make Glasgow Greener and City Charitable Trust.
Eight prizes will be presented, including an overall winner chosen from the category champions.
The finalists for Best Community Garden are Riversidehall Community Garden, G3 Growers and Glasgow Women’s Library and in the running for the Glasgow City Council Green Business Award are Caledonian Driver Training, Dear Green Coffee and Zero Waste Market.
Hoping to be named Best School are St Joseph’s Primary, Westercraigs Children’s Forest School Plans, St Roch’s Primary and Deaf School and Garrowhill Primary.
The finalists for Best Clean Up Campaign are Denmilne Action Group, G3 Litter Free, Keep Drumchapel Tidy and Polish the Shields.
The four groups in the running for Glasgow City Council Environmental Initiative are Glasgow Play-Resource Association, Pollokshields Space Force, Pre-loved Uniforms and Waste to Wishes. The finalists for People Make Glasgow Greener are Susan Wilson, Gorbals Men’s Shed, Beata Kolecka and Castlecroft Residents.
Best Community Initiative finalists are Kelvindale’s An Empty Gunny Bag Cannot Stand, Baltic Street Adventure Playground; Garden Revives (Ready Steady Grow Pollokshields); men’s mental health group Men Matter Scotland; Mount Florida Community Council; and Mount Vernon Community Hall.
