SCHOOL’S out for summer…

It’s the start of the holidays, which means happy faces all round for children heading to the parks and beaches.

(Or stuck at home, avoiding the downpours, annoying their parents.)

Glasgow Times: Schoolkids playing in 1958.

Our photographs capture children at play in the 50s and 60s in playgrounds and parks around the city – watching the swans in Queen’s Park on the south side and playing on the swings in Alexandra Park in Dennistoun.

We also want to hear your memories of the great Glasgow Fair.

This annual holiday is a city institution, dating back hundreds of years.

More recently, it was marked by Fair Friday, when all the factories closed in the middle of July to allow their staff two weeks’ holiday.

How did you spend your Fair Fortnight when you were growing up in Glasgow?

Did you venture down the coast, to seaside hotspots like Girvan and Prestwick, or travel across to the isles of Arran, Bute and Cumbrae?

Maybe you went further afield - we would love to hear your memories and see your photos.
