FAST food chain McDonald’s is set to open its new restaurant in Toryglen on July 7.

Licensing chiefs handed a late hours catering licence to the franchisee, AG Restaurants, this week.

It will allow the drive-through restaurant, in the car park of the Toryglen Asda, to open 24 hours a day.

Lindsay Robinson, the solicitor representing AG Restaurants, said the opening hours would allow McDonald’s to “support the workers of the night-time economy in the local area”.

This will include taxi drivers, emergency services workers and hospital shift workers, she said.

Ms Robinson revealed the Prospecthill Road restaurant will open on July 7, but an environmental health inspection is required beforehand.

An environmental health spokeswoman told the licensing committee they had been unable to visit as the premises was under construction. They are arranging an inspection with the restaurant.

Ms Robinson said: “The applicant has a track record of operating and running McDonald’s restaurants which have late hours catering licences within the committee’s own local authority area.”

They run McDonald’s premises at Trongate, Argyle Street, Sauchiehall Street, Pollokshaws Road and Glasgow Fort.

McDonald’s is also hoping to attract visitors to evening events at Hampden Park to the new restaurant.

Licensing committee chairman Alex Wilson asked what measures will be in place to deal with litter.

Fiona Wilson, who will manage the store, said: “There will be a number of litter patrols on a daily basis.

“We’re looking at putting in additional bins around our perimeter, so we can encourage people to use those bins.

“It’s something we will monitor on an ongoing basis to make sure we are keeping on top of it, to make sure there’s no adverse extensive litter issues within the local area.”

Ms Robinson told the committee that more than 70 jobs have been created in the new restaurant, with 10 to 15 reliant on the late hours licence.

She also said there would be extensive CCTV and staff receive conflict resolution training.

The licence will be retained until a “satisfactory inspection of the premises” is completed.
