A THIEF who broke into a woman’s house and stole her TV was snared by his fingerprints.

Liam Grant, 29, entered the victims’ property at Denmilne Gardens, Easterhouse, on April 2 or 3, 2019.

The prosecutor at Glasgow Sheriff Court said: “At around 11pm, the woman had left her home with everything in order.

“She left the kitchen window open on the latch to ventilate her property. At around 5.50am the following day, she returned and observed the kitchen window to be wide open.

“She noticed the latch had been broken.

“She thereafter went inside and observed that her TV had been taken from her living room and that the house was in a state of disarray.

“A cupboard in the living room and another in her bedroom were both lying open.”

Grant, of Cranhill, also stole jewellery from her drawers as well as £70 cash.

During a police investigation, fingerprints were lifted from within the home and on January 29 this year, he was arrested within Barlinnie prison.

The court heard that there was no recovery of the £810 worth of property stolen.

Grant’s solicitor said: “This is an extremely serious matter. The case has been going on for some time because of an issue with the fingerprint evidence.

“He has serious issues with alcohol addiction although he has a very good work ethic and can work up to six days a week as a joiner.”

Grant, who was already subject to a current community payback order, has 32 hours of unpaid work still outstanding.

Sheriff Mary Shields told Grant: “Having been persuaded by your solicitor, I will deal with this by a direct alternative to custody.”

He was ordered to carry out another 230 hours of unpaid work, to remain within his home between 7pm and 6am for four months and pay £1000 compensation to his victim.
