A GLASGOW estate agent has revealed the three things every city house hunter is looking for in their dream home.

Vanilla Square, which has an office in the West End, said there have been a number of shifts in the property market.

“It’s a really interesting time for the property market,” says Steven Lucas, Managing Director of Vanilla Square.

“During the lockdown, lots of people have spent time improving and enhancing their homes in order to get them in the best possible shape to sell.

"This means that the standard of property coming on the market is incredibly high – it’s a really exciting time to be buying or selling.”

Now Steven can reveal the three things that every Glasgow house hunter is looking for in their new home...

Glasgow Times:
1. Outdoor space

After more than a year of pandemic restrictions, the benefits of having a garden are clear.

From al fresco socialising to being able to enjoy a little nature on your doorstep, outdoor space has major appeal.

“While it’s not new that many buyers would like a garden, it’s now much higher up the wish list,” says Steven.

“Whether it’s a city centre balcony or an acre of lawn, buyers are making outdoor space a real priority.”

2. Extra room:

For many people, working from home is likely to become a permanent situation and this is driving the desire for an extra room.

“We’re seeing lots of buyers who would like an extra room in their new home,” says Steven,

“However, not everyone is looking to create a home office. For some, the extra space would be used as a home gym or hobby room but there does seem to be a trend towards buyers looking for homes that can be more multipurpose.”

3. Location, location, location:

Spending the majority of the last year at home has highlighted the importance of loving where you live.

From scenic walks to artisan bakeries, we’re now acutely aware of how crucial it is to have the amenities that matter to you on your doorstep.

“Previously, buyers may have compromised on location if they found a property they love,” says Steven.

“However, now we’re seeing more people hold out to find somewhere in the area they have their heart set on. Lots of people are now able to move to their dream location as they’re no longer tied to a physical workplace.”
