A YOUNG woman was told to "grow up" by a sheriff after attacking a police officer and punching a man on a night out.

Depute fiscal Katie Bell told Glasgow Sheriff Court that around 10.30pm Kayleigh Akelis was in Glasgow City Centre and was "heavily intoxicated" and staggering around.

Staff at a nearby hotel were concerned for her safety during the incident on May 1 last year so phoned the police.

Officers arrived and said they would take the 20-year-old home so she gave her cousin's address.

But on arrival her cousin refused her entry to the house.

Police said they would have to take her elsewhere or she would need to spend the night in custody.

She then began to shout at officers so was arrested.

Ms Bell said: "She began to shake out her legs, striking police witness Johnston to the back."

Akelis was taken to Govan police station and put in a cell but then began to strike her head on the cell door and had to be restrained.

In a second incident at 2am on June 19 this year, Akelis was again in Glasgow city centre with friends and had been drinking.

The victim in the case was also out with his friends and approached Akelis on Argyle Street to speak to her.

She punched him to the chest and then went to kick him but missed.

Ms Bell said: "They came back in to contact a short time later and the accused punched him to the stomach."

Police were called and CCTV operators provided footage of what had happened.

Her defence lawyer said she was a young woman who had developed difficulties with alcohol and that drink played a part in her offending.

She had previous convictions and is already subject to a community payback order for those offences.

Akelis is also subject to an anti-social behaviour order at her home address in Blantyre.

Sheriff Allan Findlay said: "It's time to grow up now, Kayleigh, because it's starting to get serious."

He placed her on a community payback order with 18 months supervision and a review in six months.

She was also ordered to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work.

Sheriff Findlay added: "You'll be seeing me in six month's time and you better get this under control, do you understand me?"
