A WOMAN swung a bag of smashed glass at a shop worker.

Around 6pm on June 14 last year Lindsay Andrews returned to a branch of Scotmid on Edinburgh Road where she had bought alcohol five minutes before.

She had a smashed bottle with her and explained she had dropped the booze and wanted it to be replaced.

The store manager said the shop had no responsibility to replace it so Andrews eventually agreed to pay for the replacement and was taken to the till.

Depute sheriff Katie Bell said that at this point the the 44-year-old stamped on a staff member's foot.

She then picked up the bag of broken glass and swung it at another worker, causing her to take action not to be hit.

The incident was captured on CCTV and cops tracked her down.

Her defence lawyer said: "This is totally unacceptable behaviour and she does accept that.

"She recognises her actions took a considerable psychological toll on the witnesses.

"She recently appeared before this court and was put on a community payback order but some appointments have been missed, though she has been compliant with her restriction of liberty order."

The lawyer said Andrews has recently had "serious difficulties" in her life, such as an attack on her son that is being treated as attempted murder and her partner is waiting for a liver transplant.

Sheriff Allan Findlay called for a progress report to be given to the court in November and told Andrews: "Stay out of trouble."
