A NEW £40 million high-tech hotel will fill a derelict gap sight in a prime Glasgow city centre spot.

Hotel chain Maldron is well known across Ireland and the rest of the UK but the 300-bed, 12-storey hotel at the corner of Renfrew Street and Renfield Street is the first in Scotland.

It is set to open in early August and will bring 80 jobs with it to the city.

Maldron Hotel Glasgow City’s General Manager, Hazel Galloway said: "We are really excited as we countdown to opening here in the vibrant city of Glasgow.

"We are passionate about all the Maldron brand offers, quality and value, and we are confident that it will be just as popular in the Scottish market as it has already proven in Ireland and in other parts of the UK.

Glasgow Times:

"The recruitment process has been a huge success and myself and the team of 80 are currently working very hard to get everything perfect for the opening, which we believe is perfectly timed around Scotland’s great staycation summer.

"As a local myself, I am just so thrilled the Maldron hotel will embrace the local community culture and provide the perfect base to explore our dynamic city and beyond.

"Glasgow itself is a wonderful location for a staycation, you can enjoy soaking up the city atmosphere with wonderful tours, attractions and art galleries opening up again, the stand-out food and drink experiences and of course the shopping.

"But it is also an ideal spot for exploring the great outdoors with our beautiful city centre parks, as well as only being a short drive to the breath-taking view at Loch Lomond or stunning nature and landscape at Pollok Country Park."

Building and interior work has been completed, with only the finishing touches being added to the new Maldron Hotel Glasgow City.

Glasgow Times:

Recruitment has proven successful with 80 new jobs created and employees already on site ensuring the perfect guest experience ahead of the opening of the beautiful new 4-star addition to the city.

The hotel, which looks out onto Glasgow's theatre and shopping districts, is set to unveil new stylish spacious bedrooms, a bar and restaurant, resident’s gym, and state-of-the-art business facilities when it opens in early August.

The Dalata Group PLC, the largest hotel operator in Ireland and one of the fastest growing in the UK, already operates over 45 hotels across the UK and Ireland, but this will be its first in Scotland

Maldron Hotel Glasgow City represents a significant investment and vote of confidence in Scotland by Dalata Hotel Group PLC, providing a substantial economic boost to the city as it recovers from the impact of Covid-19.

The hotel is also highly tech-enabled with chromecast in each bedroom, digital check-in and a virtual guest services platform.

The new 80-strong team in Maldron Glasgow have all been enrolled in development programmes through the Dalata Academy.

Hazel added: "We all simply cannot wait to be opening our doors to our first guests in early August 2021, we are ready to give them a great Scottish welcome and enjoy our brand new hotel."

Aligned to Dalata’s Green Tourism commitment, the hotel has been built to a BREEAM sustainability assessment of ‘Very Good’ standard and has new technologies such as Air Source Heat Pumps and Heat Exchangers to reduce carbon emissions.

It also holds the ‘We’re Good to Go’ industry standard which shows they have agreed to comply with Covid-19 safety guidelines.

Maldron Hotels can be found in prime locations throughout Ireland with expansion across the UK in recent years.
