ONE Glasgow theatre has shocked customers by unveiling that it has a Wimbledon-style roof that opens on sweltering hot days.

Pavilion Theatre, on Renfrew Street, has revealed to followers on Twitter that they have a special roof that can be opened on warm summer days.

The theatre said: "Great start to July so we have our roof open today like Wimbledon and Wembley only difference being, they can get thousands in, we can only get 100, time for change is needed. We need theatres open soon."

Theatres across Scotland remain restricted to social distancing as the majority of the country remains in level two Covid restrictions.

This means that many are unable to open due to only being allowed a fraction of the audience in.

Fans were astounded by the roof revelation.

Scot Squad star and stand-up comedian, Darren Connell, replied: "That is absolutely stunning, I didn’t realise you could do that!"

Another person said: "Wow that's amazing. Been in the place a good few times and never knew about this."

Ex-River City and Gary: Tank Commander star, Leah MacRae, even commented on the roof, while also advocating for live venues to re-open following lockdown.

The actress has performed in the theatre throughout the course of her career.

The Wimbledon-style roof has led fans to describe the Pavilion as an "open air theatre in Glasgow."
