A FORMER bookies in Glasgow city centre could be turned into a restaurant if city planners give the project the green light.

The eatery would open from 8am to 11pm if planners approve the plans at the site of the former William Hill Bookmakers in St Enoch's Square.

The applicant has not outlined the type of cuisine that the restaurant would serve but they did say that they would like to use the pavement for outdoor seating.

One objection has already been submitted against the plans.

The objector, who is a nearby office worker said, said: "I would like to start by saying that, although I am raising a objection, I nevertheless wholeheartedly support the proposal for a restaurant in this location. I think it would very positively affect the evolution and atmosphere of St Enoch Square as a destination.

"However, I feel I need to object about the proposed location of the extract flue at the rear.

"The addition of the new extract flue in the currently proposed location would mean that one of my windows would end up being sandwiched directly between two extract flues, with all the additional noise that would entail."
