A GLASGOW city centre supermarket will be extended and modernised after planning chiefs gave the project the green light.
The extension and modernisation of the Lidl supermarket in Jamaica Street, Glasgow has now begun.
Lidl is working with construction firm Dickie & Moore to modernise and extend the store by 521m2 to create a total sales area of 1256m2.
Lidl say the enlarged sales area will enhance the shopper experience and features a sizable in-store bakery and customer toilets with baby changing.

The Jamaica Street store will also have money-back recycling stations installed, in preparation for the Scottish Government’s Deposit Return Scheme rollout in July 2022.
Lidl Great Britain’s Regional Head of Property, Gordon Rafferty said: “It is great to be in a position to begin work on our Jamaica Street store to deliver an even greater range of our high quality and affordable produce to the local community, whilst also enhancing the customer experience in store.
"We are extremely grateful for all the support that we have received so far and would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding whilst we enter this phase of the development.”
