NOTHING beats a good chippy.
Our love for good fish and chips is something that unites us as Scots.
In fact, I'll use almost any excuse in the book to get one - a chippy is my hangover cure, comfort food and go-to if I don't want to cook.
In a lockdown with eased travel restrictions, a fish supper has also become an excuse for a wee day out away from Glasgow.
If you're in the mood for a road trip, some sunshine, sea and fish and chips, here are some of the best that are only a drive away from the central belt.
1. The Oban Fish and Chip Shop
Tucked up on the West Coast, Oban Fish and Chip Shop has been ranked highly by many Scottish publications for their delicious seafood options.
From the city centre, it takes two hours and 12 minutes to drive there (I promise you, it's worth it).
2. The Fish Works, Largs
The Fish Works in Largs is a family run business with owners working in the industry for more than 40 years.
The fish is selected from Peterhead their "fish merchant" and whole langoustines are caught daily by local fisherman.
Out of all the chippies I have tried in Scotland, this one has to be my favourite and it's only a 49 minute drive away from us here in Glasgow.
3. Allan's Traditional Fish and Chip Restaurant and Takeaway, Paisley
Founded originally in 1890's, Allan's has been around for more than 100 years.
Allan's is extremely popular among locals and is only a 21 minute drive away from Glasgow.
4. The Wee Chippy, Anstruther
On the east coast, the Wee Chippy has become renowned for serving up five star fish and chips for more than 20 years.
It takes one hour and 45 minutes to get there from Glasgow.
5. La Dolce Vita, Lochwinnoch
Based in Renfrewshire, La Dolce Vita specialises in homemade Italian-style pizza and fried foods.
Visitors also have the option to indulge in their own ice cream.
It takes only 29 minutes to get there from Glasgow.
