THE programme for the United Nations COP 26 in Glasgow has been announced.

The two week-long event kicks off with the biggest political gathering in the UK with a two day world leader summit in the city.

US president Joe Biden could be attending as could Vladimir Putin of Russia and Xi Jinping of China and it is understood Pope Francis could be coming to Glasgow for the event.

Glasgow Times:

As the host country, the UK’s Presidency Programme has been revealed including exhibitions and events alongside the two weeks of climate change negotiations taking place at the SEC on the banks of the River Clyde.

Each day will have a different theme focusing on the priorities of the COP, including clean energy, zero-emission transport and protecting nature, and ensuring the participation of women, girls and young people is at the centre of climate action.

Science, innovation and inclusivity actions and issues will run throughout the programme.

The Presidency programme will run alongside the formal negotiations at the centre of the UN summit.

Alok Sharma, COP26 President, said: “The COP26 summit in Glasgow is our best hope of safeguarding the planet for everyone, building a brighter future and keeping the 1.5C target alive.

Glasgow Times:

“I have been pleased to see progress and momentum on the four key goals I have been taking to governments across the world and the presidency programme will continue this throughout the two weeks of the summit.

“From finance to energy and gender to adaptation these are vital issues that need to be addressed to make COP26 inclusive and successful.”
