GLASGOW is a city famous for its buskers and this weekend they’re uniting to tackle homelessness.
“Help The People, Help the People” will take place on Saturday from 12 noon and 12 musicians across the city are set to take part. It will take spectators on a walking tour of landmarks across the city including St Lukes and The Barras in the East End.
The event is aiming to raise cash for Social Bite - a cafe social enterprise set up in order to provide job opportunities for people formerly on the streets.
Each busker will have a QR code enabling spectators to donate money online.
Cameron Luan McGale is among those who will be performing on Saturday and helped organise the event. He said:“Glasgow is populated with beautiful, big hearted people who want to do their part to help. On a personal level, and as a busker myself, the city of Glasgow has provided me with so much. I just want to give back and help where I see the city is hurting, and I know that other Glaswegians feel the same.
“Live music has been decimated by the pandemic - and that’s caused many of us musicians to despair. But at least most of us can take solace in the fact that we have a roof over our heads. Rather than sit and fret, we’d prefer to be positive and do our bit to help the people who need it the most.”
Founder of Social Bite, Josh Littlejohn said: “We’re really thankful to Cameron for organising Help the People, Help the People and choosing to give all proceeds to Social Bite.
“It’s been an incredibly challenging past 18 months for everybody and I’m sure Saturday’s musical tour will put a smile on many people’s faces.
“The money raised will help support those who need it most and help us continue to tackle the issue of homelessness across the country.”
The event is free to all but those interested in going along are encouraged to register online for a ticket. Included will be a wristband and a map. Anyone interested in attending can sign up here.
