EAGLE-EYED locals have been keeping their sights trained on the shop front of the former Queen's Cafe since a mystery installation appeared in the window.

Last month Ginesi's Artisan Gelato moved out of the Victoria Road store and into a new home a few doors along.

A display of white balloons blocked up the window with an orange question mark appearing.

Confusion deepened as Post It notes were stuck to the front of the shop with messages written on them such as "Pret A Manger soon!"

But some people noticed that the orange and white balloons are exactly the right shade of the Loop and Scoop colours.

Glasgow Times:

And it would seem they might be correct.

The ice cream and churros cafe, which opened first on Great Western Road, has been a smash hit with queues routinely lining the road waiting for a taste.

A second branch is opening in Bearsden next Wednesday.

And founder Calvin Kayes had promised he would look at a South Side site after being harangued by locals fed up of having to cross the river.

The Glasgow Times heard the rumours and took them straight to Calvin... who confirms a new South Side location is coming soon.

But he was tight lipped about the exact location.

Calvin said: "It’s a very exciting time for Loop and Scoop.

Glasgow Times:

"As we get ready to open our second store in Bearsden next Wednesday, we are also getting ready to announce our much anticipated third site.

"This time we’re moving south of the river, as many have already guessed, and can’t wait to take the brand to the South Side of the city.

"Our loyal fans have been asking us to open in the South Side since we launched and we have a few sites earmarked.

"All I can say is stay tuned.

"After a crazy year of lockdowns and having to change the way we operate we are ready for the next phase for Loop and Scoop and we have exciting plans to reveal when the time is right."

With Ginesi's, What the Fudge, Short Long Black and the Vegan and Veg Cafe nearby, Victoria Road is going to become the ice cream capital of Glasgow.

And you don't hear us complaining.
