RANGERS fans have hit out at an "embarrassing" decision to only allow 2000 people into Ibrox this weekend for a friendly against English giants Arsenal.

Light Blues supporters say it is "unfair" to have allowed thousands more to attend games inside Hampden Park for Euro 2020 than will be able to do so at the Govan ground on Saturday.

Gers fans also pointed to recent events at Murrayfield and the fact that, from Monday, clubs with much smaller stadiums will be able to host at least 2000 with less space for social distancing.

Taking to social media, one fan wrote: "Absolutely disgraceful considering Murrayfield and Hampden had many thousands attend games just recently."

Another said: "What a joke. Our health minister said these events are low risk yet £2k allowed. What’s changed?"

One wrote: "Shocking but expected from Scot Gov."

And in a dig at the fact thousands of Scotland fans were allowed to attend Euro 2020 games, another added: "See if we all wear kilts can we get more fans in? That's how it works right?"

Gers bosses this morning also shared their disappointment at the decision, which granted Rangers permission to welcome 2000 fans two days before further Covid restrictions are lifted across Scotland.

From Monday, all football clubs in the county will be allowed to host at least 2000 fans and apply for more on a "case-by-case" basis.

But also pointing to the more than 10,000 who took in Euro 2020 matches in recent weeks, a statement from Ibrox chiefs read: "Rangers are disappointed at the small number of supporters being granted access given the precedent which was set at the Euro 2020 matches at Hampden Park as well as at other sporting events in Scotland, and the time it has taken to have the number of supporters confirmed by the Scottish Government."

First Minister Nicola Strgeon confirmed all parts of Scotland would move to Level Zero on Monday, giving all outdoor stadia the chance to host at least 2,000 fans.

She said yesterday: "From Monday, July 19, all parts of Scotland not currently there will move to Level Zero.

"However, this move will be made with certain modifications applied consistently across the country to ensure we're not easing up faster than is sensible.

"There will still be limits on the size of events and stadia attendances but these will increase outdoors to 2,000 seated and 1,000 standing."
